The morning of July 6, 2007, it was the start of my 2nd week at Okmulgee Public works. I was cleaning up the Traffic Control Office. I found a box of porn magazines under the desk. I went to report the box to the Property Maintenance Supervisor Ricky Pearson. Ricky told me that the box had been there for years, not to worry about them, just leave them. I told Ricky I did not want the magazines in my office, there was no place for them at work and if need be, I’ll report the magazines to Rick Miller to get the removed.
Ricky said they would be removed by the end of the day.
About 4:30pm that day Ricky Pearson went home, his Magazines were still in my desk. I went to talk with Rick Miller. He said he would have Ricky remove the magazines. He asked me to give him a week to find a way to get this done without disclosing the fact that I reported the magazines.
A week later the Magazines were still under the desk. Rick Miller and I then took the magazines and placed them in the dumpster behind City Hall. A few weeks later word got out that I had the Magazines thrown away. Jimmy one the Maintenance workers asked me why I threw them away, he would have moved them to his office, he said that they needed something to read in the winter when things slow down.

Pictures from Okmulgee Public Works
The Property Maintenance Supervisor ( Ricky Pearson) knew and approved of dumping furniture and trash behind Public Works.
Okmulgee Public works Burning trash pile. the toxic smoke from this fire at times drifted into the Okmulgee Primary School next door.
The burning of trash and furniture was reported to the city manager. He only wanted to Know who put the trash there.
Okmulgee Steet Sweeper dumping trash alongside Okmulgge Creek
This dumping was reported to the Public Works Director, I guess he thought it was ok as long as they dumped the trash beside the creek and not in it.
Reporting these and other problems created a very hostel work environment for me, I was in fear of losing my job. after securing new employment, I emailed these and other Pictures to a City Counsel member, guess what? nothing happened! I then filed a complaint with Oklahoma DEQ. The dump site is now being cleaned up, and the City has been told from now on they have to take all trash to the City dump.

City Parks
Okmulgee has some really nice parks, but it seems like the city just does not care about them. Sure they are installing some nice things in the Parks like the new play ground equipment at Kiddy Lake last year, a New Splash Pad at Noble Park and they are installing a new play ground at Okmulgee Municipal Park. But don't you think they should fix some of the problems in the Parks first? For example, the rest rooms at Kiddy Lake, they are dirty, run down, and no privacy latches on the doors.
I ask you: Would you want your 5 year old child to use this rest room?
The City must think this rest room is Ok for kids; otherwise they wouldn’t have installed a new Play Ground next to it.
Another problem that is over looked in our Parks is:
Graffiti…
Does anyone know if there is a City Ordinance that says that Property owners will clean Graffiti off of their property? If not there should be.
